Anger

This page discussed the topic of anger.

What is Anger?

Anger is a response to unreconciled pain in your life.  Reconcile the source of the pain and the anger will subside.  This is simple, but not easy.  In the end, we must accept as much of the reality of our situation as we possibly can and then offer the part that we cannot accept to the LORD (and do not take it back).

Is Anger A Sin?

And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,  Ephesians 4:26

“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’  But I say, if you are even angry with someone, without cause, you are subject to judgment! Matthew 5:21-22

Anger is not a sin.  However, we are more emotionally likely to sin when we are angry.  And certainly letting anger control us is a sin.  Also, we should not be angry at others generally (if we are) - rather we should be angry with an action or situaton.  We should then promptly break the action or situation down so that we clearly understand what it is that makes us angry.

When should we be angry?

One way of looking at this is to say that we should probably be angry at the times when God is angry.  In order to know these times, we must study the Word of God to find times when God was angry and learn exactly why He was angry.

When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. - Mark 10:14

How can I live day to day?

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. - James 1:19

Do not be stubborn, as they were, but submit yourselves to the Lord. Come to his Temple, which he has set apart as holy forever. Worship the Lord your God so that his fierce anger will turn away from you. - 2 Chronicles 30:8

Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent. - Psalm 4:4

People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness. - Psalm 14:29
