Addiction
This page discusses the topic of addiction.
What is addiction?
Addiction is the seemingly endless spiral of trying to satisfy or cover up an un-reconciled area of your life. Addictions can involve substances, such as drugs and alcohol; but they can also include unhealthy and prohibited behaviors or relationships, such as affairs, pornography, etc. The downward spiral comes when we discover that the substance or behavior, in fact, does not satisfy the need that originally started us down the addiction road. Satan then tells us the lie that the only reason we are not satisfied is that we just didn't take enough of the substance(or the right kind of substance) or didn't engage in the "right" kind of unhealthy or prohibited behavior or relationship - and the spiral continues - and inevitably worsens. Although the substances, etc. do not satisfy, they do take a toll on our bodies and minds. The same can be said for addictive behaviours. We find ourselves ultimately un-satisfied, in places that we never intended or wanted to be.
None of these attempted "cover-ups" will satisfy the original need for reconciliation and relationship. We need to be honest enough to admit that our attempt to "treat" our need has failed. Cut your losses and abandon that course of action for one that will truly satisfy - a right relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
