"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." - United States President John Quincy Adams
Dream More
![]() |
How big is big? Where are the limits, the boundaries of your ability to dream? What is the largest dream you can imagine? Is it possible to imagine a bigger dream? Where does it end? A few years ago Microsoft used the question "Where do you want to go today?" to inspire their customers to dream bigger and expect more. Do you see how dreaming and expectation are conjoined twins?
Are you willing to risk having unrealistic expectations in order to test whether they are realistic or not? The answers to these various questions become yardsticks by which each of us measure ourselves, our lives and others. Indeed, someone whose actions inspire others to dream more truly is a leader. Dare to dream more. |
Learn More
|
The directional sign on the road to knowledge is labeled "Learning". How much knowledge is enough? Where are the limits, the boundaries of our ability to learn? How much can you learn? Is it possible to know too much? Where does it end?
Indeed, the more you know, the more you know that you don't know. When my personal library grew to exceed a few hundred volumes I stepped from the world of "knowing the answers" to the world of "knowing where the answers were". At that point it became essential to assess the quality and authority of a given reference document. Since I can't know it all, I want to be able to rely upon vast resources that have shown time-and-time-again that they are reliable. Indeed, someone whose actions inspire others to learn more truly is a leader. Dare to learn more. |

Become More
![]() |
Is it enough to learn and not be? Which is better: an educated idiot or a successful fool? What does it mean to be successful? How much success is enough? What does it mean to become more? Where are the limits, the boundaries of our ability to become more? What can you become? Is it possible to become too much? Where does it end?
The answer to these various questions becomes a yardstick by which each of us measure ourselves and our lives. Indeed, someone whose actions inspire others to become more truly is a leader. Dare to become more. |
Leader of Leaders
|
Anyone who is a leader will tell you that a single lifetime of personal experience and wisdom gained is wholly inadequate for the leadership challenges that they have encounters. The only hope that we have is to learn from others. King Solomon was perhaps the wisest and wealthiest person who ever lived (in the context of the world in which he lived). And, from a lifetime where "I denied myself nothing my eyes desired", his conclusion was that "Like the fool, the wise man too must die!". |

Do Not Aspire To Lead
No man (or woman) is an island. To aspire to lead is to aspire to become isolated. For all but One, leadership is a trap. Rather, we should aspire to connect. But we should not aspire to random or arbitrary connections. We should aspire to the highest quality connections possible. And what connection could be of a higher quality than the connection of genuine fellowship and communion with the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - Creator of all that is, was and ever shall be?

Reference Man
A yardstick is a reference by which we measure everything. Our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is wholly God and wholly man, is unique: THE Reference Man. Jesus is patient and kind. He does not envy or boast, nor is He proud. Jesus is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs, does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. He never fails.
Jesus is the yardstick.
Life only has meaning relative to the reference of His person and practices. And if you are not His relative in the sight of Almighty God, you don't measure up.
Indeed, the greatest aspiration that is attainable by mankind is not to lead, but to follow.
